11” x 14” Mixed Media - acrylic, text pages from Ben Hur… the resilience in this story reminds me of the sunflower and the Ukrainian people fighting for their lives. The sunflower has always been a favorite of mine, and we plant them yearly. This year we are planting a variety to see which ones the birds like the best and we also pull the seeds to replant for the next year. This is a dedication piece for the people in Ukraine fighting for their freedom, their families and their country. I was listening to podcasts and news stories about the fight as I worked on this piece, thinking and praying for the people — especially the women and children that may never see their family members again. The hope is that they will see them and have life again together.
