11” x 17” Mixed media butterfly and handwritten letter from my great grandmother in 1984. I wrote on top of her handwriting to see how her hands worked even up into her late 80s. We would write letters to each other when I was seven or eight and it was a thrill to get a letter in the mail. I have held on to her handwriting for decades and now I am finding that I love hearing her voice as I read them again. She lived in the country and was a very hard worker, she cooked and cleaned and took care of her family. She could also bale hay and haul anything and do just about anything her husband could do on the farm. She was also a talented quilter, and I have a quilt she made for my Dad hanging on my daughter’s bedroom wall. This piece comes with a lot of thought and love stitched into it and woven into the ideas.

In 2022, this was a piece in a group show, “Mothering Me” that was in Louisville, featuring all mother artists.
