21 Petals for 21 Lives Lost
21 Petals for 21 Lives Lost
Mixed media pieces are 10” 10” gallery wrapped 1.5” canvas.
I was so moved with despair after the loss of 21 lives in Uvalde, Texas in May of 2022. It was a hard time already, then seeing these innocent lives cut short just stopped us all in our tracks. When I see tragedy like this, it makes me go into my praying mode and also to the sketchbooks and journals I have kept for years. I then create things for lives that are lost. To remember the good in those lives, to celebrate their lives. Three different flowers can have up to 21 petals, what I found when I researched… so the zinnia, aster and black-eyed susan families all were the perfect match.
I created these while on a solo art retreat at the beautiful Loretto Motherhouse and I couldn’t have had a better, soul-filled time while there. The peace that the time there gave me to create was amazing.
These pieces are dedicated to the Uvalde, Texas citizens who are trying to rebuild their lives with faith, hope, love and peace.
