“You are my Forever”
This piece was commissioned by a friend who just married one of my best friends from high school. Their love story is a grand one and I couldn’t wait to finish this for her. We kept it a secret, all the details worked out perfectly. They have a farm with chickens, a horse and cows. The bull, Garrison, is the first cow they bought and he is the ruler of the roost at their farm. My friend was super easy to work with and I was just honored to do this work for them both. It is always so great to see an art owner’s face the first time they see the work I create for them.
If you need a piece of art that is unique and a surprise to anyone you love, I am all in! I love to keep the surprise and work on every detail to make it just right.

I Surrender All
It’s about how our right brain/left brain interact… surrender all in the left or right? Or both? The image of the butterfly is a watercolor drawing I did to remember the big paper maché butterfly I made as a kid that my parents wouldn’t throw away. Now that my Dad has passed away, I reflect on this image often as I created the butterfly while sitting with him one day last spring. He battled for ten years with Parkinsons and Lewey Body Dementia. The week after he died, I opened our front door and a monarch landed on our butterfly bush at the same exact moment. Thank you, Dad, for visiting me and always teaching us to persist. NFS

Sewing History
I was commissioned to do this piece for Lift Up Lou. What an honor to be alongside so many talented people in our city! Thanks to the Louisville Artist Network for this opportunity.
The quilt in this picture was made by my Great-Grandmother on my Dad's side of the family. The background is green and blue representing the Earth and how we are all sewn into history together. The quilt is cut out skin tones from magazines for the background of the quilt and then 149 diamonds out of red and pink.
The top-left image is of the registration card of my great-grandfather before being drafted into WWI. The top right image is of the registration card that my grandfather signed to be drafted into WWII. So my great-grandmother live through her husband going to war then her son-in-law going to war, thirty years later. She lived through some really hard times.
The bottom-left image is from the World Trade Center, two weeks before 9/11. I was on the Staten Island Ferry and took a picture of the landscape and I never would have imagined what would happen two weeks later.
The bottom right image is a stadium beside our house, which I photographed in 2020 during the Pandemic. It was so quiet without the students and fans. This represents a visual picture of things on hold... sports arenas closed down, music venues silenced, schools were empty and visual artists were scrambling to find new ways to sell art without art fairs or galleries open.
The mask in the middle was influenced by my friend Lynn who organized mask sewing teams at the beginning of the quarantine. I participated in that and with every mask I just prayed that whoever would wear it would not get sick and they would stay healthy.
